THE BUTLER HERALD
Butler, GA., Tuesday, March 24, 1885
We are called upon to chronicle the death of Mrs. P. G. Shepherd, formerly Miss Annie Eliza Johnson on the 19th, of Feb., 1885. She was born the 26th of June, 1847 and married to Mr. Shepherd the 5th of Sept., 1861. She leaves a husband and 8 children to mourn her loss. Four children having preceded her to the better world. As a wife she was devoted and true. She was a kind and affectionate mother, and tried to teach her children to do both by precept and example economically assisting her husband in obtaining a competency. Her hospitality was unbounded always glad to entertain her friends.
She exemplified the Christian graves which are so necessary for a mother, in order to exert the proper influence over her children. She was a member of the “Freewill” church, and died in the faith. She is now waiting on the other shore to welcome her loved ones as they come over.
