Ernest Stangeland and the farm he and our family grew up on. The Stangeland clan came from Norway and settled in NE Iowa in the 1850's. Farming was very profitable and 4 generations did very well up to the early 1950's when small farms became unprofitable. All the Stangelands moved on to other states and now there's only a few worn tombstones in the old Lutheran graveyard to mark our presence there. It was a wonderful place for us children to grow up and the older children, Phil, Janice, and I missed it for decades and always considered it our true home.
